Highlanders Make Many Big Plays to Beat Big Reds 55-14

Five of Huntington's eight touchdowns came on plays of 60 yards or longer as the number one ranked and undefeated Highlanders showed the Parkersburg High School homecoming crowd the true meaning of making big plays as they posted a 55-14 victory over the Big Reds.
Huntington had scoring runs of 60, 70, 77 and 94 yards and added a 76 yard touchdown pass in posting their seventh straight win. The Highlanders averaged a whopping 13.1 yards per offensive play on the night, collecting 538 yards on 41 plays, including 445 yards on the ground on just 35 attempts.
Nick Tubbs had three touchdowns for the winners, who finished with three rushers gaining over 100 yards each. Tubbs had 167 on just five carries, including a 94 yarder, a 70 yarder and a three yard run. Paden Christian had 113 yards on eight carries and scored on runs of 60 and 18 yards while Charles Crawford had 107 yards on eight tries and had a 77 yard run to go with a 76 yard TD reception. Huntington tried just six passes and completed only two.
Both of Parkersburg's touchdowns came on passes to Stephen Dailey, one from three yards away by Josh Trembly and the other from 43 yards out from Aaron Roberts.
The Big Reds, hampered severely by injuries which have taken away four of their top rushers as well as two of their leading receivers, managed just 91 yards on the ground and 99 yards through the air. All-state punter Kyle Foster was forced to kick nine times on the night, averaging 38.2 yards per punt and putting two inside the 20 yard line.
Huntington broke on top with a surprising 76 yard pass play with 4:55 left in the first quarter and added a big burst up the middle by Christian with just 15 seconds left in that period. On their next possession they scored in two plays, meaning they had three straight possessions and produced three scores on just six plays. The visitors made it 27-0 by going 59 yards on seven plays.
The Big Reds got on the board after Foster's punt to the 14 yard line was fumbled and Trembly recovered for PHS. Roberts picked up a first down at the three but had to leave the game for a play. Trembly came on and found Dailey in the back of the end zone and Dailey made the leaping catch just inside the back line for the TD with 1.8 seconds on the clock.
The second half was more of the same with Huntington scoring on drives which lasted, five, two, three and one play.
Parkersburg's final touchdown came after some good running by Chase Shank and a 15 yard penalty set up some razzle-dazzle by the Big Reds. A double reverse handoff which wound up back in the hands of Roberts, who, just before he got hit, threw a long pass to a wide-open Dailey. The junior end trotted into the end zone with 7:48 left in the game.
Max Chefren led the PHS defense with eight tackles, including a sack while Austin Brown and Trembly were each in on six stops.
